Message From the Director General

Food is the very basic need of human beings for their survival it is a source of energy for our daily chores, professional work, livelihood, health, body growth and decay all depend on the quality of food we consume daily. In developing countries such as Pakistan the provision of safe and healthy food has always remained a major challenge due to food safety and adulteration issues. Unhealthy and unhygienic intake of food is hazardous to the human body, which creates a burden on the already stretched healthcare system. Life expectancy is also low in the country due to unsafe and adulterated food items in the market.

In such circumstances, a regulatory body such as the KP Food Safety & Halal Food Authority (KPFS&HFA) was the need of the hour, to bring forth much-needed reforms in the food sector. In the last few years, the Authority has made a very good reputation by leaving a positive impact in terms of improving the premises, personal and food hygiene of food businesses in the province. This reflection of Authority’s hard work on the ground is even commended by the business community.

Being the head of the aforementioned Authority, I am entrusted this extremely important and huge responsibility to bring further improvement in the food sector to ensure safe and nutritious food to the general masses of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. It’s our moral and social responsibility to refrain from producing such food items which may harm public health. It’s an open secret that the provision of adulterated and poor quality food items with hazardous ingredients not only goes against the teaching of Islam but also against all the social norms of our society.

Rome was not built in a single day, it’s my firm belief that the government alone cannot make things up to the internationally agreed standards, support and cooperation of the general public play a key role. Let’s join hands together to end this menace of adulteration from our society, by playing our role in whatever capacity possible. I believe that together we can provide a safe environment free from all sorts of food adulteration, contamination and ensure the best hygienic practices for our generations to come.
